A recent study has shown an uptick in cosmetic surgery trends worldwide. Included in the study was a review by the ISAPS (International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery), which considered data from 104 countries. The results show interesting global trends, including popular procedure types and country-specific metrics.
Results by Country
The United States was one of the frontrunners in cosmetic procedures, which totaled 18.4% of the world’s cosmetic procedures. Other notable countries included Brazil, Japan, Mexico, and Italy, which accounted for 10.4%, 7.2%, 4.4%, and 4.1%, respectively. Clearly, cosmetic surgery popularity is rising around the world. Compared to last year’s data, these statistics showed a 5% increase in surgical cosmetic procedures. These numbers are expected to continue rising, as noted by the President of ISAPS, Dr. Renato Saltz: “It’s great to see the 2017 results released to see the continued growth in plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures in many different countries around the world. The USA still remains in lead position, followed closely by Brazil! It will be very interesting to compare this data with the 2018 results as we’re seeing record numbers of patients taking advantage of the latest innovations in cosmetic surgery to look and feel their best.”
By far the most popular non-surgical procedure continued to be injectables. The leading cosmetic choice here was “Botulinum Toxin” (otherwise known as Botox), which showed a notable increase in the last 12 months.

Minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures have become popular for a reason! They are less expensive, easier, and require less post-operative recovery time. Even routine cosmetic surgeries have been made simpler by advances in non-invasive technologies, including non-surgical nose jobs. Here are a few of the most popular minimally-invasive treatments on the market today.
Botox is a quick-acting agent that improves facial frown lines, including between the brows, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles. Botox injections work by safely paralyzing the facial muscles generate these lines when they contract repeatedly. These treatments ensure that wrinkles fade over time. A protein made by the bacteria Clostridium Botulinum, Botox is natural and FDA-approved.
Dermal Injections are used for a variety of improvements; they can increase the volume of thin lips, act as scar treatment, and soften broad facial creases. While there are many dermal injections on the market, the most popular uses Hyaluronic Acid (among the safest options). Since Hyaluronic Acid is structurally similar to collagen, it acts similarly when injected into the skin (providing a glowing, youthful elasticity to your skin). It also stimulates the formation of new collagen!
Microneedling (Collagen Induction Therapy) is a procedure in which tiny needles cause minial, superficial damage to the dermis (skin), which stimulates cell regeneration and new collagen forms. The collagen promotes elasticity and skin tightening. While the results from classic facials last 1-4 days, the youthful effects of this treatment last much longer.
