On vacation, you will be tempted with cuisine and cocktails that you probably don’t have back home. This is your time to relax and be less active. Although you should indeed relax and enjoy yourself, you should also be a bit careful. If you are not careful, you may come back with extra weight. If you don’t like running, you don’t have to run every day. If you don’t like going to the gym, you don’t have to go. Instead, choose activities that you enjoy and that are naturally aerobic. You are on vacation, and you should definitely enjoy the local cuisine. Traveling without trying the food is a big mistake because you will be missing out on a huge part of experiencing a local culture. Only 20% of your daily food should be a treat, and 80% should be healthy food consisting of lean proteins and high fiber.

When packing, keep your health in mind too and bring things that will keep your body going strong. Make sure you bring sunblock to avoid sunburn. Depending on the destination you are visiting, you may want to bring an insect repellent. Pack necessary medications, as well as some OTC meds for headaches, indigestion, antihistamines and similar. Lastly, you should always have antiseptic hand wipes and sanitizer in your bag.

Lastly, when you come home, give yourself a break. Rushing back into regular work and life is not easy, so consider giving yourself one extra day of break to catch up on the laundry, spend some time with friends and to simply relax from the trip.
